Hi all, the time has come to get a larger lizard. Later this year I'll be investing in a pair of Rhino Ig's, but at the moment I'm trying to decide on whether to get a Bosc monitor or a Tegu?! I've spent hours researching both, but just wondered what your opinions were?

what lizards do you keep at the moment, if you let us know that then people might be able to give you suggestions based on your experience?

TBH, I consider the tegu a tamer, calmer and slower lizard generally.
However, IMO, boscs are a more 'exciting' lizard. Like dustbins!

Both need a big viv and a lot of food, though a tegu would perhaps be cheaper to feed.

in my opinion, after keeping both boscs and arg tegus the most responsive and best lizard to keep is def the tegu. you will not regret keeping this species!!!

if you are considering a varanid or similar species i would skip a bosc all together. granted they get bigger, but whatever you hope to accomplish as far as lizards go this will be a better choise.

i would look into either water or argus monitors. granted they grow a bit bigger and are more pricey, but i think over all you may be happier with your decision.

I would go for a tegu, they are great fun to have around.

tegus will also eat anything you throw at them, even the odd cat and skink that they find in their enclosures!

They do tame down really quickly, and you can have lots of fun interacting with them, although during breeding season it can be fun avoiding the males.

I have two boscs myself, I enjoy both of my boys very much. Never been much into tegus I must say so I am a bit biased.

Boscs are more active than tegu's in my opinion but you know, your rhino iguanas will take alot of space and care so why not just hold out so then you can afford them faster and give them more attention and more of your money?

Thanks for all your responses, I'll need to make my decision over the next couple of weeks! Still unsure though!
