is bleach aloud for the cleaning of branches and other equipment in a reptile tank?

i think you can use bleach but you have to water it down loads

If i use bleach, i soak in diluted bleach for 24 hrs then in clean water for 24hrs Very Happy

thats what i thought but i hear so many different views, i got new logs and branches for my new tank and soaked them in diluted bleach and have since been told by a reptile shop to trow all branches out as it will poison them and never to use bleach on anything in the viv, so who do i listen to?

Dont know hun, let them have a good long soak in clean water, then what i do is smell them if they are still bleach ridden you can smell it, i have never had any probs, hope that helps a bit Very Happy

In my experience do not beleive anything told to you in a reptile shop without checking it first!

I use a mild bleach solution to clean my vivs and hides etc. I've never had any problems.

thats what i thought as i have been using it for 3 years now and never had any problems, its just this guy seems to know his stuff but then again,,, how can you argue with sucsess, i think i will continue to use the diluted bleach for now,, or what would be the alternative cleaning method?

another good way to deal with germs and stuff on wood is to give it a good wash then bake it in the oven for 30mins on a high heat (and no it wont catch fire)

But i only do this for drift wood and others that are bark free!

you should only need a 1% bleach solution i think.
