|
This morning to my dismay I found one of my slow worms trying to pass a piece of spagnum (?) moss that I use in the tank for cover. I took her out and put her in a tub with damp kitchen roll for a bit and she managed to pass a 5-7cm piece of moss. Her vent looks a little swollen but has "cooled" down a bit with being onthe damp kitchen roll.
I'm wondering though should I take her straight to a vet or should I stick her in a sterile tank with paper towl as substrate and see if she has trouble passing anything else? She is still active and doesn't appear any the worse off, her vent was initially quite swollen but it's near enough back to normal now.
Also should i remove the moss from the tank? I've used it for near a decade without problems with slow worms, this is the first time I've been aware of anything like this happening. She must have pick up the end of a bit moss with her food. Should I just keep a close eye on her eating from now on or remove the moss completely? Given she's a wild caught slow worm I got near two years ago (from Russia) I wouldn't really have thought she'd be this daft! |
