| from a wildlife point of veiw (or at least amphib) it is a good idea not to have fish. Although i'd always be tempted with sturgeon lol |

Thats why i built the stream so i could seperate the two, most of the toads spend there time in the stream rather than the pond, when the tadpoles hatch a few do work there way into the pond but as there toads the fish dont eat them.

yeah we have a big koi pond. we had a year old die couple week back the frog latched on round its gills and couldnt breathe and the koi was a baby from ours!

How wierd is this 2 days away from being exactly a year later, i go out to check on the fish because of todays snow and find another toad attached to my fish, the same fish as last year, maybe its the same toad as well.
Also that female frog that allways lays her infertile eggs finally found a mate and spawned only to have severe frost the next couple of nights which killed most of the eggs, but i think about 20 or 30 hatched, adult toads we are up to around 40 now in the stream, only seen about 4 newts though so far this year.

You are soooo fortunate to have any frogs or toads, in the S.E. here they seem to have almost disappeared. Used to love the croaking chorus each night, now it is silent...  Do have lots of newts in my pond though
