now THAT'S a snake...lol.

Dan, how do you find working with such a large snake in a viv that's not too tall? I struggle with some of mine and they just house lizards. Embarassed

I guess it just comes down to practice Scott? It does sound rediculously small but it is actually pretty much perfect. Even with the "runners" which take away another 5 inches from my entry making it just 11inches tall for me to get in there it isnt a problem..... for the bottom 3 vivs. The top 2 require a stool and in the case of urates splattered up the back wall (happened a few weeks back when a female was telling a male how much she didnt want to breed!!) it takes the stool and then my entry into the viv in order to get right back there!!
It all works as long as i put the right snake/s in the right viv at the right time. If things aren't planned properly it could get messy and very awkward.

The thing i recently found with this girl is that she is a big bluffer, until food is involved. She likes to hiss and throw her body around with the occasional swift head turn to get rid of me (in fairness to her its a good plan as it usually works Wink ) but there is no real agression. When food is involved its no holds barred so i chuck food in, shut door and leave the room. She is a little highly strung and over sensitive when there is food in her viv. Bit like a dog growling to protect a bone i suppose Cool

I use a coconut husk base (for humidity) and then i use a flax top cover.

The flax is natural and softer than aspen. Plus because it is plant based and not wood it isn't dusty at all. It also has a added bonus of forming an almost carpet like layer after a few days that doesnt move around in clumps with the snakes. This means i can spot clean with ease.

I recomend flax to everyone although i doubt many people have actually tried it, they just go for aspen as it looks vaguely the same at first glance. Shame really as it is cheaper than most substrates, at £6 a bale which covers an inch in each viv for about 20+ vivs i think its pretty good value.
