Great find Rick, hope they do well for ya Cool

Well yes indeed, thank you just wish I could say it was a well planned and intelligently executed purchase, but it was not and was sheer luck! hehehehhehehe! At least I admit it Embarassed

The ironic thing is, I have arranged to buy some APH's from two different bloodlines wiht the intent of breeding them with the ones I thought I had! So I will now have Tenrecs and APH's. Laughing

The tenrecs need to hibernate so my job now is to feed them well up before winter! Then they should breed early next year.

just thought i would give you a little bit of info about tenrecs (all came from my head, pretty sure its correct)
tenrecs are insectivores that are found solely on the island of Madagascar, they are an example of animals evolving to form the same natural niche (convergent evolution). Tenrecs evolved to behave like hedgehogs and shrews but are actually not that closely related to anything. There are lots of different species of tenrec, the most commonly seen are the lesser and greater hedgehog tenrecs.

the pic that someone posted is a streaked tenrec an unusual species that, unlike the hedgehog tenrecs, is both very hairy and has quills.

AWW Rick these lil fellas are so damn cute, remind me of the Clangers. When I looked after these at the zoo, we discovered they can climb UP things really well but as for getting down- they just curl up in a ball and plummet to earth. Also were incredible diggers.
love Jan o

Right, well I have now collected some real African Pygmy hedgehogs! Not to be breed with the Tenrecs of course. The pictures of the hogs were taken by the person whom I bought them from.
