lol, I actually just went to look. I am having Panthers around Sept - Christmas time. Graduate as a Vet in July and Im away in August so im doing the "sensible" but boring thing of waiting for the right time! lol. I will however be buying a breeding pair of Panthers at 3-4months old. I will possibly be buying the screen vivs - cant decided on the housing. hmmm, will screens be warm enough? will glass (with mesh top) be too moist? Why cant there be one right answer! lol. I was thinking of converting my 3x2x2 wooden viv to have it hight 3ft, with mesh door and mesh roof, but the dad (who of course would be helping!) is not so convinced, he thinks it wouid be easier to just start again!. hmmm.
What others do you have? _________________ Sophxx

screen vivs are brilliant for airflow, but it can be difficult to maintain humidity, glass vivs can achieve both, but some people don't like putting chams in glass vivs. I personally go for mesh/screen vivs and ensure that there are live plants in there and that the whole thing gets a bloody good misting every day |

awesome. I really like the exoterra screen terraniums, but for some stupid reason they are not in the uk yet, grrrr. Do you have the Terry thatcher ones? I plan to have an umbrella plant - my mother is kindly growing one in her house hehe! she took a good cutting from her big umbrella - its growing nicely! I also will have some Ficus too and lots of vines, bla bla bla... lol
Stuart - do you have any pics of yours for set up ideas please? _________________ Sophxx

Sexing a 1 month old panther is difficult but possible. There will be no differences in body e.g hemi bulge wont start appearing until at least 2+ months. Colour is the only way to sex small babies, but is not 100%.
Why did you buy such a young animal?
Screen enclosures are the best for Panthers. If you are worried about ambient temps then get some MDF cut to size and block the back and sides. When summer comes (if it ever does) you can take the wood off the sides and take the whole enclosure outside in the sunshine.
Panthers kept in glass enclosures with the humidity kept high will lead to respiratory problems. Always let the enclosure dry out between mistings. |

I use Exo terra flexariums, I bought one of the new screen vivs in Germany and I find them a bit flimsy, plus there's nowhere to attach any vines etc to..........
My Nosy be male
In a 30x16x16 flexarium until he's grown on a bit more, then he'll move into the 100 gallon size
The oldest Ambilobe male is in this 260 gallon flexarium with a ficus tree, silk plants, hanging dripper and misting nozzles. lighting is from a 24" repti glo 2.0, a 24" repti glo 5.0 and a 160W Mercury Vapour Powersun lamp
The dripper you can see is made from som 2mm garden irrigation hose, and one of the Gardena plant watering drippers, it has an adjustable flow on it and costs about £3 for 6
The young Ambilobe is also in a 30x16x16 flexarium with ficus plant, silk plants and exo terra vines |

the other one is very young so i think it may be hard to tell by the tale, let me see what i can find though. Happy that you think the Picasso is a boy though coz had more doubt about him than the other. |

wouldn't like to say, I think there's a slight thickening of the base of the tail, indicative of his little baby 'nads............... could do with a sharper focus tho' Have a look yourself, you're looking for a pair of elliptical bumps just back from the cloaca, they'll be very slight. Panthers can be sexed at hatching so at a month old with a good pair of eyes you should be able to tell. If you can get a better pic I'll be able to tell. |
