Must admit iv developed and interest in them as well, defiantly something about them. Hope it doesn't grow into a hobby cos I'm out of room Very Happy .

Yes it is great fun! I think for me its the prolific breeding (lobsters) and the variety that you can culture. Plus due to them being cockroaches and not always having a good rep I tend to support the underdog.

I now resent feeding them to the herps! Shocked

They are dubia and they are ovoviviparous, which in effect means that they produce live young.

They do this by first producing eggs in sausage-shaped egg cases. They hold these within the body until they hatch, and live babies crawl out of the female. Sometimes, the females extrude the egg cases and walk around with them sticking out. I have heard it suggested that this is an attempt to try and cool them down.

They normally pull them back in again, unless they are disturbed whilst doing this. If this happens, they sometimes drop the case. I've seen this happen quite a few times, but I've never seen a dropped case hatch.

If this is happening a lot; give them some space! There is no need to go anywhere near them more than say twice a week.

Hope this helps,
Mark.

Sorry Nick, when I said give them some space, I meant make sure that YOU do not disturb them. They prefer to be crowded....

Cheers,
Mark.
