Orange heads; Eublaberus prosticus, I am soon going to have a go with these thye are a tad harder to keep than the other roaches, being wing biters and having the tendency to require a higher meat / high protein source in their diets. Humidity is more of an issue for these to. Thye are an attractive looking roach also. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

No I would not!
In fact stick with crickets, Crickets: they stink, are prone to bite your herps, carry parasites, noisy, will invade your house, and are a general pain in the arse!
You can keep lobster roaches in really useful boxes as it goes! _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Hi,
In answer to your question about feeding a bosc monitor lol...
Dubia would be a good choice for a growing bosc, but once it gets large, you will need a much larger species of roach.
I would personally recommend the giant cave roach Blaberus giganteus. These are non-flyers/non-climbers, and three times the size of dubia roaches and four times the size of lobsters.
Personally, I would avoid lobsters. They are too damn fast and can climb anything. Both dubia and giganteus require a little more patience, but in my view are infinately better species to work with.
Cheers,
Mark. |

I like the lobster roach and feed loads of them off, if feed off correctly they are not a problem.
I agree for a Bosc a larger roach is needed. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Ban the lobster!
Only joking Rick. I like them too. I think Scott and Mark are implying that the Dubia are easier to "handle" not being climbers and perhaps not so fast , is that right Scott and Mark? Are they a temperate species also though, the dubia? If so then that is the only disadvantage that I can think of, that being that if temperate , they could colonise over here.
I am breeding lobsters now and find them very useful but I would be silly not to give the Dubia a trial also so I may just do that. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

I have both the dubia and the lobster and find both Ok for diff reasons TBH I dont find the lobster any hassle at all. It's all down to how you keep them and feed them off IMHO. There is obviously a place for both types of feeders and variety for the herps is the key.
I am cultivating the P. Nivea because chams luv em, now they fly off everywhere and are hard to keep, but I will still embrace the hassle of them as the chams like them. Just means a bit more work is all, but if the chams are happy then thats cool with me! _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk
