Well from what Peabody says about this T-rex stuff it's probably a similar product to stress coat water conditioner.
Peter> Blackwater Extract is basically a concentrated tannin you can make your own by boiling a few leaves (oak or Indian almond are best) or a bit of drift wood in some water. _________________ Andrew Tillson-Willis

I would look more at spending money to do all you can to prevent problems rather than stocking up on things you should never need. _________________ Andrew Tillson-Willis

Thanks Andrew, right tannins. Same story again then. Just a pot with a posh label of what you can pick up off the floor outside! I know adding an oak leaf to Dendrobates tadpole`s water is a tried and tested method of providing tannins. It has an anti-bacterial quality too doesn`t it?
Are there tannins in cork bark at all? _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

yes tannins do have anti-fungal & anti-bacterial properties.
All woods contain tannins some more so than others, stick your piece of cork bark in a tub and see how much comes out. _________________ Andrew Tillson-Willis

I remember a fair while back I had Bombina orientalis and there was a water fall in the set up which was basically water flowing over a Java moss covered piece of cork bark. Plus a piece floating in the water section. After a while the water turned a (in my opinion) lovely pale tea stain colour but at the same time crystal clear. That`s why I asked. Thanks Andrew, (nice meeting you the other day at Dale`s by the way). _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

If you want tannins buy some mapanai wood it is loaded with the stuff and will turn your water into a rich tannin ocean overnight. Most pet shops sell it and 99% of aquarists sell it. I get mine from one of the leading multi chain pet stores 4.99 for a big lump of it very decorative it is to! _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk
