of course I can preview them on the camera, then I take them onto my pc to store and edit/process..

I have all my pictures in files with subfolders and there are over 35,000 pictures at present!

If I try and open 300 pictures in one go to see what they are my pc will sit there for 8 months and then pass wind and die.

Ideally what I want to be able to do is preview the pictures in their folders, then edit the ones that are most important and discard or name the rest..

having to actually open each file one after another when there are in excess of 10k RAW pictures is not such an appealing prospect.

For most stuff I take I use maximum resolution JPG files which I can preview, and usually only minimum editing is needed so no real need for RAW... but the festivals, parties and such do require raw for decent exposure fiddling and denoising.

My camera does have its own software for editing and viewing raw files but I find it nowhere near as decent as photoshop cs2

Must be some way to view the pictures without having to open the buggers

Well all I do is edit the raw files and convert to jpeg..that way if you want to view at a later date just open the jpeg folder..voila!
Surely if you edit your pics as you upload them it wouldn't be a problem? I just keep a seperate folder full of the original raw files as a back up or if needed at a later date.

thats all well and good with a few pictures, but with 500+ a day taken at some events opening each one to see what it is is a pain.

If I am just taking say 5 - 10 pictures of a specific thing, Raw is not an issue as I am happy to open and edit each one then save them as Jpg.

Wish there was a windows plugin that allowed for thumbnail preview Sad

I see your point but I shoot at least 250 plus raw pics if I do a shoot for someone and just go through and edit and delete them..takes time but tbh I delete alot of the ones I know are going to be cra.p on the day so most the ones left on the card will need to be edited anyway..

I know its dedicated to nikon users but capture nx will open a whole folder of raw if you want it to and you can adjust size of the thumbnail..that way you can browse through all your pics and select which ones you want to edit and save or bin the rest...I never use the feature as I just go through each pic..surely PS must have a raw converter that allows the same?

Digital Photo Professional (Canon) also shows you all the raw files in the folder as large thumbnails, even if there are 100 or so. I don't see the problem, Like Stu I just keep all the raw files and edit and convert those I want as jpeg's.
