Ok my Reed frog, Oliver, a few weeks ago was a dull brown then he turned white on top, then he went brown again!

He has now gone white on top again!

What is going on? Anyone care to have a go and tell me what type of reed frog he is please?

Massive difference Shocked

Personally I would have said that the white was the natural form and the brown when stressed, but thats just judging from other amphibean and reptilian species that will darken up when they feel vulnerable. I see its only the white colour when on a leaf, so keep it well planted and I'm sure it will flourish! Looks like a great frog either way mate Wink

I got him about two months ago and he had been kept in a mixed speices tank with x3 dart frogs the dart frogs were all different species from each other. I got them as a job lot. The previous owner said he had always been brown and that the frogs had always been kept together.

The reed frog used to spend all his time hidden behind the light reflector at the top of the tank.

I have rehoused all of the frogs in their own seperate tanks now. The tanks are all heavily planted up, plenty of hiding places and all have appropriate sized water bowls, moss, varying levels of substrate, rocks and cork bark tubes etc.

Since they have each had their own individual set up they seem more gregarious, are feeding well and seem more active. Especially the reed frog who used to remain hidden all the time. Now he is out and rests in the leaves of the plants durring the day and spends long periods sitting in his water bowl durring the night. I must admit it is nice to see all of these frogs have now come to life.

Peter Parrot gave me good advice about these frogs, so thanks Pete for the advice, it worked, and worked well, nice one mate! Very Happy

I would like to add that this is not a criticism of the previous owner but just the account of my experiences with said frogs.

His gone brown again! Mad frog that he is!

Nothing has changed in his set up. Except for a few flies that he not eaten yet walking about, they are only melanogasters so he shouldnt be scared of them? Most odd
