A couple of weeks a go while I was a way for the weekend 5 of my young hermans tortoises escaped, they had dug under there fence. Anyway I thought the chances of finding them to be almost zero (I have a very large garden that is completely overgrown and surrounded by farm land and NOT tortiose proof on any boundary!).

Amazingly a neighbour found one the day they esacped, it had walked 500metres min! I was pretty sure that was all I would find, especially knowing how far that one had walked in just one day. Anyway a few days later I thought it was hot enough at around 8.50am to have a little search of the garden. I could'nt believe when I found another one basking, again a good 200 metres from their pen, right in the corner of the garden along a boundary with nothing stopping it heading off into farmland. 5 minutes later I found another just 5 metres from the first Shocked

I was sure that was it in the way of luck but 3 hours later I went for another quick look and couldn't believe when I found the last two, in the same area. So out of 5 that escaped, all five were found, four were found 4 days later in the same area, less than 15 metres from each other Shocked I should of bought a lottery ticket that day but never got round to it Embarassed Laughing

Below shows the last tortiose basking in the midday sun, it's slightly tilted to maximise the sun. It show's just how hard they were to find Cool Laughing
