Hi!
I'm about to get my new panther Chameleon, but in the meantime i'm looking after my friends new leopard gecko!
I'm feeding him the brown silent crickets.
Unfortunatly, i'm very new to this (still at the panicky stage when they jump!), and that's silent crickets!
Today, i put one in the viv with him, and he happily ate it. About 2 hours later, i thought i'de give him another one, but two fell in!
I was just wondering if the crickets can be left in the viv with him? He's just a baby gecko, a few weeks old i believe...
The second was pulled out of the viv and put in the fridge for 10 minutes to slow him down so i could get him back in the box without him jumping. And when i put him back in, he came round again.
Could i do this with them before every feed? Surly they would come round nicely in the warm viv?
Thanks guys, as i say, i really have just started.... Owned fish before, but this is a big step up!

Yeah you can cool them in the fridge so that they are slower and they will warm up again in the viv.
It would be best to not have loose crickets in the viv as they can annoy the lizard (not to mention you too as they are never "silent"), the odd one or two isn't going to be a problem though so I wouldn't worry. |

You put in ONE cricket ?
Throw in 5 or 6 and watch him run around chasing them, if any are left over just leave them in for 'ron
('ron = lateR on ) _________________ People laugh at me because I am different

So what ?
His mum aint gonna cut his dinner up and feed him is she ?
Two or three days after hatching, when the last of the yolk has been digested he is a fully independent gecko and little hunting machine. Hatchling leopard geckos do 3 things , eat crap and eat. If you don't feed him lots during the first months he is going to end up a runt.
Obviously don't throw in a box of adult crickets Crickets that are as long as the width between his eyes is the best size for him. At hatching size I feed number 2 or 3 brown crickets dusted with calcium every feed. _________________ People laugh at me because I am different

I know for me it's Crested Geckos, but still...
The first feed it took a couple of days until the last of the crickets were gone, however, now they gulp them down instantly!
The other day I put 6 crickets in, within 1 minute, 1 baby had eaten 3 of them, so I threw another 4 in, which were gone by the end of the day! This just gives an idea of what they are capable of when it comes to eating! _________________ 1.1.1 Crested Geckos

lol
OK, thanks for the replies..
Just put 3 in there now, dusted. I'll see how he gets along.
He's spending a lot of time hid away, and not really bothering unless the crickets come near him...
Thanks again guys

bear in mind that leo's are nocturnal [come out at night]
so it is likely that he will not eat them in the day so If I were you I would put the crix in when you turn the lights off.
