Interested to see how long people have been keeping reptiles and what got them 'hooked' with the reptile hobby? _________________

Its over 20 years for me and although fish keeping has always been more at the forefront of my hobby I have always had at least some amphibians and reptiles.
It was my dad who got me into fish and living on a farm i was always guddling in ponds and burns looking for frogs and newts.
Now i work as a countryside ranger with a crested newt license getting paid to guddle in ponds LOL |

I started keeping in my first year of "big school"
I used to go to school via (actually about 2 miles out of my way) a disused raillway line that has several stagnant ponds dependant on time of year. I would collect smooth and palmate newts, sell any i could at school for the princely sum of £1 and then bring the rest home to keep in a fish tank in the garage. By the time i was caught i had nearly 100 adults and LOADS of babies.
My interest was first peaked however by the fact i grew up 5 minutes walk from Knaresborough Zoo, the home of Cassius Funny how life turns out................. _________________ TFA

What do you have to ask that for; makes me feel old!
Like Cornuta, I have had a mixture of fish, reptiles and amphibians for years. At times, I've been more into fish, or frogs, or what have you. In recent years mostly lizards and chelonia.
Started out with tortoises, slow worms, newts etc in outdoor terraria in the mid-late 1970's.
Ouch!
