hey all, i am currently half way through my gcse examinations, and in about 2 weeks they will be over and i have a long holiday in which to do nothing. I will probably get a part time job, but to amuse me during the week i am thinking about doing a course in herpetology. I have found a couple of places that do them:
- Proteus
- Compass Education and Training
And was just wondering, whether anyone knows of any others or if anyone has done the ones above and can comment on how good they are.
cheers _________________ Tom

I depends on what type of course you are looking at.
As far as I am aware there are NO higher education courses in Herpetology in the UK.
There are probably a few enthusiast courses if thats what you are after. _________________ Live for today as your dead for a long long time

You can however specialise in herpetology in higher education, with only one university (University of Wales, Bangor) offering a full module in it _________________ Regards James Stroud |

nah there isn't one. doing a module in it constitutes you specialising in whatever the content is? |

It's a university degree at Bangor and is an optional module in many of the biological sciences courses (such as Zoology, Zoology with Conservation, Zoology with Marine Zoology, etc). All courses are three year courses, compromising of around 15 modules a year (give or take )

Sounds interesting, i don't think they have a herpetology module in swansea, but not sure.
With my original comment... does that mean you would end up specialising in 45 different areas (theoretically), one for each module. I've never thought of it like that. |

No, in reference to specialising I was meaning a herpetology based research project (third year thesis) can be conducted. There are three lecturers at Bangor that excel in herpetological studies and so learning under them is not only a brilliant advancement of education but could lead to future research possibilities _________________ Regards James Stroud |
