green iguanas are a waste of time and space and water monitors arent arboreal.
as far as arboreal things go id recommend monitors. but there arent any places that i have been to that have any decent ones really.
id look into peachthroats, black roughnecks (i know these are available here with some foot work), or if you arent looking to hold them even TREE monitors. they are available in black, green, blue, and a yellow (melinus) color. blacks being the cheapest. although none are keen on handling.
hope this helps perhaps? _________________ cardboard city. |

green iguanas are a waste of time and space? lovely, very kind words.
And i thought water monitors were largely arboreal for the most part, my mistake. _________________ Beardies

dont know about the rest of the lizards mentioned but i think water dragons would be good, mine are very friendly and come out every night and sit on my shoulder or my head before chasing each other around the room , usually the male trying to get his leg over! and they reach a good size, id love an iguana but not sure i could give it the time or space it needs,,, dont think they are a waste of space and time though |

if youve ever had an big adult male green iguana youd know what i mean. dont get uppity.
water dragons are ok i guess, but do require a lot of room. if you are going to allow an animal of that size into your house, there are much more attractive ones than water dragons. _________________ cardboard city. |

Not getting uppity... and if YOU'VE ever had an adult Iggy then shame on you for A] Not doing what you had to do to care for it and
B] calling the beautiful creatures a waste of anything.
The gent asked for a preferably 3-6 foot lizard... green Iggy fits the description.
They are no more a waste of time, space or resource than any of the larger monitor species nor do they require more room than what you would want to give an equally sized Monitor. _________________ Beardies

im sure there are alot of interesting lizards out there but shrew was asking which type to get that was a good size and he also wanted to handle it, they are also easy to get and i would say they are very rewarding, but thats just me, ive never been into monitors. |

Relax lads - it's alright to have a difference in opinion.
It's all down to personal preference in the long run, and what sort of character you want - by the look of it, Shrew doesn't want something overly aggressive (as we all know some can be!) and is looking for something quite specific.
Input is clearly appreciated - perhaps backing up your opinions is the way to go? Your own experience stories are the best thing to help someone new to a hobby, believe you me; I only just started in this herping lark, and it can be very daunting.
I've found rawling through relevant topics and reading how other people look after their animals to be very useful and full of tips |

well as for handle-able... all lizards have their own character, my own experience with green Iggy's of all sizes has always been very good, i know they have had their bad press but golly... we expect worse [and get it] from Boscs and other monitors and don't bat an eyelid.
All what i mentioned can be tamed... only the water monitor can inflict serious damage and the water dragons/sail-fins can be skittish but not really ever impossible to handle, although you wouldn't want to push it with a nervous animal.
with time any of them should become great pets and enjoy being handled but there are no guarantees.
If your happy with 2 foot then go for a beardie.. they aren't generally arboreal but mine are kept in a 6 foot high Viv and make use of all of it, right now they are both 5 foot up chilling out and given the chance i think most beardies will take to the semi arboreal life.
I don't know much about them but Monkey tail skinks i think are arboreal, friendly and pretty decent size, worth looking into.
Otherwise just look at importers.breeders etc lists and anything you don't know what it is click on and then look it up, you might find something you'd never have imagined.
Best of luck. _________________ Beardies
