I would just like to know who on here sells reptiles or amphibians?
Is it illegal to sell animals that you have bred yourself privately without a pet shop license?
I am asking this because i am thinking about, in a few years time, starting a small family run reptile shop from my house, a bit like 'Jacobs ecology' or 'DC1 reptiles'. So i would just like to know, if you are purchasing reptiles from wholesalers and selling them, do you require any form of license?
also does anyone do this and if so how did you go about starting it up?
cheers _________________ Tom

I sell what I have bred myself. No special licences needed in Sweden, exept if you are to sell animals running under EU Nr. 338/97, where a breedercetificate is to follow the animal/s from the seller. _________________ *** Miqe ***

no special requirements if you are a private keeper selling your own animals that you have bred or excess animals you no longer require.
If you are running a business selling livestock and have members of the public in you will need a Pet shop license. _________________

I am not a business and don't allow members of the public to just 'turn up' etc So no, as a private hobbyist I don't need a pet shop license. _________________

I run such a business from my home, I have a pet shop licence but still only alow viewing & collection by apointment.
As the others have said at the moment if your just breeding and selling your own bred animals then a license is not needed but if you are buying and selling then one is - however last time I spoke to my guy at the council he was saying that all websites selling animals will soon have to be licensed if not already. _________________ Andrew Tillson-Willis

This comes into effect as of next year. However most councils (including my own) now require you to register now in anticipation of this coming into effect. _________________ TFA

Hmm i cant see that rule being regulated very well, considering the number of private breeders selling via there websites, be intresting to see how that goes. What about those using classfields etc? |

Can anyone tell me what actually constitutes a "pet shop ". how can you need a license for a web site ? what is this law/bill called ? so I can look it up. Surely there is a definition as to what is a pet shop, the words suggest a retail premises where customers come to ? what do yous think ? |
