Hi Linda,

Yemens are an easy species to keep if set up correctly.

A screen mesh viv is normally the easiest, try Terry Thatcher cages at http://crislis.co.uk/thatcher/repcage/

I would suggest a 2ft x 2ft by 3ft high would be an excellent viv, fill this up with a mass of various diameter branches, fake plants or live weeping Fig plants (ficus). They will eat the leaves of the ficus which is fine.

For heating and lighting I use 100 watt power sun bulb positioned over one quarter of the top. This gives the animal the choice of staying at the top under the heat/light or away from it, plus it can also select it's desired height. Basking temp of 100f and an ambient of 80f works for me, heat at night can drop down to 72f without worry.

Water is best provided by a 'drip' system, I have automatic sprayers that discharge water 4 times a day but a simple plastic tub with a pin hole in will work too (let the water drip slowly onto the plants and the chameleon will drink from the leaves).

Foods, locust are the best as they climb up to the level of the yemen, but crickets, cockroaches, giantmealworms can all be used too. I offer these offer food items in a dish to stop them hinding in the viv.

When the chameleon is young and growing I dust every feed with nutrabol, and then twice a week once adult.

I would suggest you buy a yemen that is at least 2" snout to vent length.
