Oh yes they do fly! Only when adult though! Easy to transfer them from tubs to those that want to eat them though, so no problems. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

They can indeed fly, but quite often dont bother. I find them less able to when they are covered in supplement powder.
They are very good climbers however, which I find useful when feeding young chameleons and tree frogs as they tend to climb right on up into the foliage where the chameleons and tree frogs tend to be. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Paul, prepare to be pelted with bean weevils!
I have just , in the last five minutes fed some young Fire belied toads with bean weevils. Quite amusing watching them as it was this batche`s first time, as they are smaller than the other batch and have just reached a size where they can manage them.
The texture of them is a bit of a shock first time round, and they pull some great faces and have a few shudders after swallowing. I suppose still live weevils in one`s stomach would make one shudder somewhat! _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

I hope no-one minds me bumping this topic.
I got a small culture of these from Virginia Cheeseman yesterday, to try on my inverts. I didn't expect much after reading Shaz's post, and for a while it looked like I was going to have the same experience - most of my spiderlings and scorplings did a very good job of completely ignoring them. But I left the weevils in and this morning every one had vanished. Some of the slings showed more of an interest in fresh offerings too. Job's a good 'un.
Idle thought: is it worthwhile to try to gutload the adult beetles? |

probably not, the adults really don't eat at all. none of the cultures we have in the lab (they're a research species in my department) are fed on anything as adults.
they don't even need water or humidity. |
