Sounds like a lot of effort for a plant that produces flowers once in a lifetime that smell of decaying flesh. I will stick with me common ones ta muchly. I believe Kew Gardens had some success with Giant Arums in their tropical house.

Their's flowered last year I believe. EDIT- I've just had a look on their website and it flowered on 4th May 2006. I would like to smell it though, just out of curiousity really. One of the keepers at Kew said it smelt like rotting rats - so I suppose we all know what it smells like...lol.

Re the Christmas cactus - just place the bag over the top of it. It doesn't matter if some of the cactus is exposed.

I will let you know how I get on with it Jackie. The Arum did flower last year at Kew, I remember seeing it on the Kew Garden series on the TV. Rotting rats nice.

Lucky you living near Kew Tom! perhaps you could get me a cutting from the giant Arum Laughing
