What's the score with fruit flies?
Are they already gutloaded from the culture? Or do you need to load them?
Also, is it possible to dust them by throwing some calcium in the tub with them?
Only just received my 1st culture from livefoods.co.uk and there seems to be a lot of flies in there (contrary to other peoples opinions of livefoods' flies), but it's my 1st venture into the world of flies!
They are the Drosophilia hyde type, and they are to feed my baby panther chameleon (he's about 1 inch long)... Do you think they will be ok to keep feeding him them? He don't seem very interested in crickets at the moment...
I read up on some homemade cultures and i'm gonna give some of them a try (the banana method seems the best).
And i like the idea of the baby food and the funnel to catch the escapee's...!

gut loading wont be possible really.. they will have some stuff obviously from the culture but nothing great,. Fruit flies have crappy nutrional value so dusting is the best option.
to dust:
get a plastic pint glass or a old coffee jar or something like that.
put in some suppliments
take your culture knock the flies into a corner by tapping the box, then dump they into the container that has suppliment in and swirl around.
then hold the container with the suted flieat an angle and tap the flies into the vivarium
If you want to slow them down pop the culture into the fridge for a minute or so _________________ Paul
