The difference between a ghost and anery is purely genetic and not looks. A ghost corn is a combination of anery and hypomelanism. The hypomelanism is a gene that has the affect of reducing the amount of melanin present in that individual snake which is why ghosts are generally lighter than anerys who don't have the hypomelanism.

However, and this is a big however, anerys can come in all sorts of shades and darknesses and so can ghosts. I've had anerys who are lighter than ghosts in my collection. This is due to the amount of melanin found in the snake to begin with and then the amount of hypomelanism present in the snake to affect whatever amount of melanin there is. (hope that makes sense). There is no absolute, definitive proof of a ghost or an anery other than breeding trials to find out the genetics. We can have a good idea of what the snake is by looking at it but, without accurate detail of its genetic make-up, then it's only a best guess.

You would be amazed at what some shops label their stock up as..many incorrectly..and the two young ladies that have replied to you are very experienced and know what they are talking about so lets keep it polite and you may learn something from them. Cool

Trouble mate, Tanya is a very well respected corn snake breeder, and Nerys is the female Dr Doolitle, both have a lot of experience in corns Nerys won many rosettes at the first corn snake breed show, Tanya also would have won loads if she had not organised it herself!!!!

Seriously dude listen to these people they can teach u a lot! I have 19+ years experience with herps (I am 33) and I am learning off them both all the time!!

Cheers

I used to work in a reptile shop that would price up theri corns according to looks, i.e if it was an amel but had a really pale background they would call it candy cane, even though it clearly wasn't, they would mark morphs that needed hypomelanism, even though they had no clue whether they possesed that trait or not because they could get more money. After all how many first- timers ask about the parentage of a hatchling?

Can i ask which shop in Brighton you got him from? I don't know of any that have a garage next to them though. If it's the one i think I wouldn't doubt what you bought from them, they are very knowledgable about their snakes and most probably was bred by them.
I have one identical to that from them and she's a stunner.

No, your absolutely correct just one person not buying from there wont stop it happening.

And its that single minded attitude that keeps these places going.

If everyone stopped then they would be forced to sort themselves out or go bankrupt.

You can go to bed tonight knowing you have perpetuated the cycle this shop runs in, congratulations....................
